The Project was a MA Studio Project with the theme 'Death' - to re-approach design solutions for medical professionals facing anxiety due to close proximity to death in their direct work environment.
My Role
I was responsible for creating the concept of the product with a team of other designers. I created the Branding, A prototype on Figma for the mobile application and conceptualized and visualized the product on Rhinoceros 3D.
Impact
Our solution, Gooey, was a unique product designed for Medical Professionals - in this case professionals on the move (nurses, doctors and paramedics).
Research to understand the concept of Death across cultures, traditions, relgions, regions, and most importantly, in the timeline of a person dying in a hospital.
Identified the stakeholders in question, ie. ones on the move - doctors, nurses and in some cases, paramedics.
Conducted qualitative interviews with medical professionals, paramedics, and psychologists worldwide.
Identified a critical gap: emotional well-being tools were either purely digital or lacked personalization.
Emergent themes: movement, touch, warmth, silence, and human connection.
As part of our research we read a lot about different stages of processing Death and went ahead to conducted some interviews with people dealing with the phenomena at differnt stages and different perspecting. Through out the journey we constantly had this question in the back of our head:
"How might we design an empathetic, sensory-driven experience that challenges conventional perceptions of materiality, communication, and form in digital solutions for the everyday — encouraging emotional well-being and support for users in high-stress professions?"
Gooey was designed as an on-the-move healing companion, integrating physical & digital interactions, with the following core values:
Physical Comfort: A soft, adaptable neck pillow that provides warmth and stress relief.
Biometric Response: Captures vitals to adjust temperature and comfort levels.
Digital Companion: A minimal mobile integration for tracking emotional wellness without screen dependency.
